Hi there...my name is
Gertie! I am a Bassett Hound. My birthday is November 30,
2001. I came to live here on November 9, 2006. I don't
really remember alot of my former life but I'll tell you what I do
remember. The first I remember is living with a family. I
was a 4-H "project". I don't remember now what happened
but I guess that after the "project" was over it was decided
that I wouldn't be able to live there anymore. So, I was either
sold or given to a lady that ran a puppymill. I became a Bassett
Hound Puppy factory. Only problem (at least for the lady that ran
the puppymill) was that I didn't ever have many puppies in each
litter. So, that lady decided to get rid of me. That lady
talked to a vet and that vet knows Grandma Judy. I was one of many
that the puppymill lady wanted to get rid of. Grandma Judy took
all of us! I came straight here though because Dad decided that a
Bassett Hound would make a nice addition to our family! I'm still
pretty scared as I write this today (11/25/06) but I am getting
better. See, a puppymill dog doesn't really have alot of contact
with humans other than when it's time for breeding. So, we are
pretty scared of humans. I am getting better about that
though. I come to Mom sometimes wanting scritches and
pets! I am really scared of Dad though. He is being patient
with me. He comes in and talks really soft to me while I am laying
here on my big pillow in Mom's office. I don't know why I am more
scared of Dad than Mom but I am sure I will get to where I am not scared
of either one of them as time goes by. It takes alot of patience
when someone takes in a puppymill survivor. I think I'll ask Mom
if I can have a diary like some of the other kids here just so I can
keep you up to date on my progress! I am sure she will let me have
one too!
